So what is it about a River Cruise that makes your holiday so very different and relaxing? Just read Alison Graham’s (the RadioTimes TV Editor’s) article in the RadioTimes magazine (25/6 – 1/7 2016 edition) and you will see that she too is now a converted cruiser. http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-06-22/cruising-is-perfect-if-you-dont-like-going-on-holiday
Alison joined the FocusTravel team on its first RadioTimes Celebrity RiverCruise in April 2016 along with Ground Force’s Charlie Dimmock, Bargain Hunt’s Tim Wonnacott and Radio Journalist and Broadcaster, John Sargeant and was soon having the time of her life. The whole process is easy from start to finish. You are collected by coach at a collection point near to your home and driven down to Dover where you cross the channel, continuing your journey through some delightful northern European countryside. On arrival in Koblenz your luggage is taken on board (no struggling with your cases as you often have to do in airports), instead the next time you see your case is inside your cabin. A few minutes later you are unpacked, showered and refreshed and ready for your amazingly relaxing holiday. For the next 7 nights, your home is a long yet not very high ship. Usually only 3 or 4 decks, the top deck being the one you can sit on for many an hour watching the world slowly drift by as you take in some of the most beautiful towns and villages along the river.
River Cruise ships have a more intimate feel than you find on many ocean liners; instead you have elegant yet simple surroundings. It’s was during our meandering up the river and in these elegant lounges that our celebrities gave talks about their specialist subjects, mingled with our guests and answered many an inquisitive question. It’s such a wonderful environment, one where you can meet our celebrities personally and talk about their lives and hear some fantastic stories and anecdotes usually saved for more formal occasions.
During our River Cruise you want for nothing, everything is taken care of. You don’t have to do or think about anything apart from what to wear, can you really eat any more delicious food and do you want to get off at the next port of call? Or just relax a little more? One thing you don’t have to worry about is encountering any “force majeure” in terms of weather. Always a concern when you join an ocean cruise but not when you are river cruising; you are pretty much guaranteed a smooth ride with no pill popping needed.
If you have cruised before and would like to experience a holiday with a “twist of the interesting” or if you have never cruised before we would be delighted if you would join us for our next Radio Times Celebrity River Cruise departing Koblenz to Basle on 7th – 15th May 2017. You will have the opportunity to make a Black Forest Gateau with This Morning’s chef, Lesley Waters, explore an antiques market with Bargain Hunt’s expert, David Harper and listen to the tales of Political Journalist and former MP Martin Bell all aboard the 4* MS Serenity.
